How can I participate in HKA-APP ?

You can register for HKA-APP by attending the information event at the beginning of each semester at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. The exact date and location will be posted promptly in the newsfeed of your intranet.

Who can participate in HKA-APP?

Are you studying at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, have a high level of self-motivation, and enjoy working in a team? Perfect prerequisites to join us. We are happy to hear from anyone who would like to know HKA-APP and the team better.

What do I get out of joining HKA-APP?

Participating in HKA-APP gives you first practical insights into what it means to work on an application with a real user community. Participation enables you to work on your responsibility (with deadlines), incorporate your competencies for the respective area, and develop them further. In addition, there is the option of crediting the work done during the semester as an elective. You can find more details about this under Join-us.

Where can I give feedback, and what happens with it?

You can give your feedback under ‘Feedback.’ This is an integral part of the further development of HKA-APP . Our goal is to develop a fully functional app that will make your studies at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences more mobile and interactive. To realize this added value for you, we are very grateful for every constructive contribution, whether supplementary ideas, criticism, hints on malfunctions, etc…

Why does it take so long for my request to be processed?

The support team of HKA-APP is very anxious to give you a qualitative and helpful answer to your request as soon as possible. We ask for your patience because HKA-APP is a small team of students who realize the project parallel to their studies. Due to the continuous re-staffing of the respective areas after each semester, additional longer processing times may occur.

How is HKA-APP financed?

HKA-APP does not have any financial means at its disposal.

Can I place my ad in the HKA-APP app?

No. Unfortunately, it is not possible to place an (advertising) ad.

What permissions does the app require and why?

To offer you the full functionality of the app, we need the following permissions, which are reduced to the most necessary:

  • Identity: the account authentication feature of the account manager is required to manage grades in the university account.
  • Location: location access allows for navigation around campus
  • Other: network communication is necessary for accessing the information base.

A more detailed list of the required permissions can be found in the respective app store: Android, iOS, and WindowsPhone.

Where does the base data of HKA-APP come from?

The basis of most of the information is in the following HsKa servers: LSF server and QIS server; in addition, there is information from external servers, e.g., the Studierendenwerk or the KIT library. HKA-APP only forwards the contents of these servers and is not their author. If specific contents are incomplete, please contact the respective faculty or operators.

Why are some room numbers and data about persons incorrect?

The data is forwarded from the LSF server of Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. Unfortunately, they may not be updated promptly from time to time.

Where do the timetable data come from, and when are they updated?

The timetables are available on the RaumZeit server of the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. They are currently updated four times a day.

Why is my timetable not available or not selectable?

Individual timetables may still be missing at the beginning of each semester because the secretariat has not finally entered them. We, therefore, ask for your patience.

My timetable is empty or incorrect. What is the reason for this?

HKA-APP only serves as an intermediary, which means that we prepare the data that we receive from RaumZeit in terms of quality. We therefore have no influence on the source, so it may be that no or incorrect data is displayed. Please get in touch with the respective faculty.

Where does the data of my grades come from, and how is it protected?

The information about the grades is retrieved directly from the university’s QIS server and made available to your smartphone. Neither the user data nor the grades are cached in the process. Using the usual mechanisms of the respective platform (Android, iOS, Windows), they are stored in a protected manner.

How do I find out my grades?

Newly entered grades can be viewed by manually updating the grades feature. Call up the notes feature and then place a finger on the display and briefly drag it DOWN. A spinning arrow will appear to demonstrate the update process. If you don’t like the manual update, select the option “Update notes automatically,” which can be found in your app’s settings. If you activate this setting, a pop-up notification will be sent to your smartphone when a new note has been entered into the system.

Why do I sometimes receive several identical grades?

The grades are retrieved from the QIS service, so in addition to the exams, the grades of the module or subject exams are also displayed. You can find more information about this in the respective study and examination regulations.

Why does the app not display grades?

(Error message: “There are no grades available.”) This is a problem with the interface of the QIS server. During and after the exam period, the server is temporarily overloaded. If your issue persists independently of this, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at Feedback orinfo@hskampus.de.
